Ultrasound
Improved detection sensitivity and characterization – with Ultrasound
eSie Touch elasticity imaging
Our unique eSie Touch™ elasticity imaging is a new method that utilizes a real-time, dual imaging mode to demonstrate the simultaneous display of the standard B-mode image (composition of tissue) and the elastogram (relative stiffness) side-by-side. eSie Touch elasticity imaging is performed with a standard, high-frequency linear transducer and allows clinicians to see a new, different type of ultrasound data. The mechanical properties of tissue provide additional information enabling increased diagnostic findings and confidence. Clinical studies indicate that elasticity imaging has the potential to increase specificity in the evaluation and determination of focal breast lesions.

Fatty Tissue Imaging
Ultrasound techniques have historically used a fixed speed of sound for all imaging, despite the fact that the speed of sound varies in different types of tissue. Siemens Fatty Tissue Imaging technology uses an optimal speed-of-sound adaptation for fatty breast tissue which corrects for phase aberration, thus increasing detail and contrast resolution, and improving boundary detection. The results are better detection and identification of subtle lesion characteristics leading to increased diagnostic confidence. Fatty Tissue Imaging is a real-time, easy-to-use, single-button solution, which is applied during the standard ultrasound exam and requires no additional time to complete the study.

Cadence™ contrast pulse sequencing technology (CPS)*
Contrast pulse sequencing demonstrates the vascularity of lesions and can be used as an aid in determining and monitoring treatment. This technology enables display of the tissue-only image, contrast agent-only image or both from the same acquisition dataset and additionally increases diagnostic confidence when evaluating breast lesions for angiogenesis.
Cadence Contrast Pulse Sequencing Technology (CPS)
“Initial research in the area indicates that elasticity technology has high specificity for the characterization of breast lesions. The technique is a software modification of a routine ultrasound exam, yet with no noticeable difference to the patient, while still offering diagnostic advantages to both the physician and the patient.”

Mammography
Exact localization – with Mammography
In the diagnostic process, you need a solution for magnification and localization procedures, digital spot imaging, specimen radiography, galactography or image-guided stereotactic needle and core biopsies.
Biopsy in upright position
Stereotactic biopsy with MAMMOMAT Inspiration represents a highly integrated biopsy solution with a small foot-print.
The light-weighted biopsy unit (optional for MAMMOMAT Inspiration) just has to be slid upon the detector, and hardware configurations plus the user interface at the Acquisition Workstation (AWS) are automatically set for stereotactic biopsy. The workflow has been automated to a high degree, e.g. the tube is moved by remote control from the Acquisition Workstation.
Biopsies can be performed from any view (e.g. CC or MLO) and with either vertical or lateral needle guidance. The biopsy images are acquired with the same FFDM detector as screening and diagnostic images, and processed with the same Siemens image processing, OpView 2.
MAMMOMAT Inspiration
Biopsy in prone position
Or you may decide on a dedicated biopsy solution placing the patient in the more relaxing prone position. With our biopsy system MammoTest™, procedures are performed out of patients’ view. At the same time, however, you can maintain eye contact with your patients, and have full patient and lesion access during the procedure, thanks to MammoTest’s 360° range of gantry movement. In addition, the “Target on Scout” functionality gives you the flexibility to use the 0° image for position calculation, thus potentially reducing the number of image retakes. And its lateral arm makes MammoTest ideally suited for small breasts.

Reduced tissue overlap – with 3D Tomosynthesis
Tissue overlap is a limitation of both screen / film and digital mammography. You can eliminate this limitation with Breast Tomosynthesis: Several views of the breast are acquired from different viewing angles and the slice images are reconstructed into a 3D volume set, thus providing better specificity and sensitivity. The benefit of Breast Tomosynthesis for women is very clear: a faster diagnosis.

Magnetic Resonance
Excellent evaluation of malignant patterns – with Magnetic Resonance
Dense breast tissue and breast implants are a major challenge when imaging breast cancer tumors in the diagnostic process: this is where Magnetic Resonance come into play.
The diagnostic procedure includes not only the visualization and sizing but also the characterization and evaluation of whole-body lymph nodes. For staging and diagnosis, Magnetic Resonance offers ideal solutions. 3D imaging of the breast provides excellent information of the lesion extent and shows the differences between normal and malignant tissue. All this helps to determine the lesions extent and hype.
We have complemented our MAGNETOM family with a dedicated MR breast scanner: MAGNETOM Espree – Pink, the next generation of breast MRI. Whether for diagnostics, during therapy or follow-up, the new system offers unmatched patient comfort with Pink Comfort, unique applications with Pink Applications, and an innovative workflow with Pink Workflow. In short: MAGNETOM Espree – Pink combines the open-bore design of MAGNETOM Espree and a wide range of applications dedicated to improve diagnostic confidence with the Sentinelle Vanguard for Siemens solution that offers exceptional breast imaging and biopsy capabilities. The workplaces are equipped with a great number of computer-aided tools such as syngo BreVis for effective breast reading including BIRADS reporting and syngo BreVis Biopsy for interventional procedure planning.

syngo GRACE
Metabolic information can be gained with syngo GRACE, our application for quantitative MR breast spectroscopy. Having the ability to detect metabolic changes in tissue, it may provide additional confidence as a tool for the diagnosis of breast lesions. With choline acting as a biomarker, you can gain essential information on the biochemical composition of lesions.
This information is important to determine if lesions are malignant or not - to help reduce the patient risk of unnessary breast biopsies as well as enable an accurate assessment of the efficacy of the treatment such as chemotherapy.

syngo VIEWS
Our software solution syngo VIEWS provides both anatomical and functional information for exact tumor and lesion staging. By stimulating the water spins, it shows excellent fat suppression and provides 3D bilateral breast imaging in sub-milimeter range. You benefit from full coverage of both breasts and good lateral coverage up to the axilla region at both the highest temporal and highest spatial resolution. And combining syngo VIEWS with Parallel imaging's technique (syngo GRAPPA), you also get superb protocols for high-resolution breast scanning. Due to its isotropic voxel size, images can be easily reformatted in any desired slice orientation.

Molecular Imaging
Improved diagnostic accuracy – with Molecular Imaging
Particularly in dense breast tissue or implants, it is difficult to reliably stage primary tumors and differentiate benign from malignant breast lesions. Here, metabolic imaging with PET•CT is useful to characterize a breast mass. Our comprehensive suite of equipment for molecular imaging offers sophisticated clinical imaging as well as preclinical and biomarker solutions. Where other clinical procedures may have proven inconclusive, PET has been proven to be very useful in depicting metastases.

Hybrid systems such as our Biograph™ for PET•CT combine the anatomical information provided by CT with the functional information and tumor metabolism obtained with PET, leading to an improvement in diagnostic confidence as well as therapeutic decision-making. Using the tracer 18F-FDG, PET•CT enables accurate staging of breast carcinoma by localizing axillary lymph node and distant metastases.
PET•CT
Technological advancements such as HD•PET and ultraHD•PET provide high resolution across the entire field of view and high lesion contrast for enhanced delineation of small lymph nodal and distant metastases – for diagnostic confidence and staging accuracy.

Our Symbia® S and Symbia E for SPECT, and the hybrid Symbia TruePoint™ SPECT•CT systems can improve the diagnosis and localization of skeletal metastases. Hybrid devices such as SPECT•CT and PET•CT can improve diagnostic accuracy and eliminate additional investigations, thereby substantially reducing the time needed for diagnoses, which may lead to cost savings and speed up appropriate therapy.
SPECT•CT
“What’s novel about Symbia TruePoint SPECT•CT is that you perform two exams in the same sitting – we can acquire the CT scan right after the SPECT and fuse the image. The result is more precise localization of the node. Here, we call it ‘SPECT-ACULAR-CT.’”
