The Siemens Academy Training and Education Centre has been officially opened by Andreas Goss, Chief Executive of Siemens, UK and North West Europe. The 700m2 facility is based at Siemens’ headquarters in Frimley, Surrey. The centre comprises seven fully equipped training suites, which can train up to 42 people at a time across the complete Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics product portfolio. Representatives from 20 large NHS Trusts joined Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics staff at the ribbon cutting ceremony. More

Siemens Healthcare exhibits its innovations for cardiology at the Congress of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) 2009. In addition to the latest imaging systems, this also includes laboratory diagnostics and clinical IT systems for patient management. Mickey and the Giant Kachoo!, featuring Disney’s Mickey Mouse, highlights a blood test to help identify allergens that trigger allergic reactions, one that’s simpler than a traditional skin-prick test and poses no risk of a severe reaction. Siemens Healthcare has developed Innovance Antithrombin, a new test for determining congenital and acquired antithrombin deficiency. Insufficient levels of protein in blood can lead to increased thrombophilia. Reason: Antithrombin ensures balanced blood coagulation by reducing the activity of thrombin and coagulation factor Xa which are responsible for blood coagulation. Innovance Antithrombin detects insufficient antithrombin activity, enabling the early detection of an increased risk of thrombosis in patients. More
