Ecological Product Information - a clear decision support tool for our customers
The "Ecological Product Information for Diagnostic Imaging Products" project developed a definition of expressive indicators concerning environmental effects.
Which lifecycle costs are associated with the operation of X-rays, ultrasounds, computer and magnetic resonance tomographs? How can you better understand the ecological aspects of diagnostic imaging products in hospitals and practices at the time of procurement? Providing the answers to these questions was the goal of this unique Germany-wide project "Ecological Product Information for Diagnostic Imaging Products".
This Integrated Product Policy (IPP) joint-project was initiated in January 2006 with the support of the Hamburg Environment Authority. Together with customers, manufacturers of medical devices developed a criteria catalogue for ecological products.
"The goal is to create transparency of ecological and economic aspects of products during their use (e.g. energy consumption, use of pollutants and disposal of product parts) before purchase. The product information should relieve purchase decisions and should give information for environmental

Purchasers will receive product information for diagnostic imaging devices that contain brief but relevant ecological information. The uniform, standardized data form enables rapid manufacturer comparisons of environmental performance and saving potential of devices, independent of purchase price.
The ecological information, which was compiled in the framework of this project, can be found in our Environmental Product Declaration (pages 6 and 7).
