The Cios Alpha C-arm system from Siemens Healthcare is to make its British debut at the UK Radiological Congress (UKRC) 2013, 10-12 June on stand 15. The University Hospital of North Tees, part of the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, has ordered a SOMATOM® Definition Flash from Siemens Healthcare. The Dual Source CT system is due to be installed in the main X-ray department alongside an existing Definition AS CT system later this year. In addition to assisting with existing procedures such as Computed Tomography urography, the system is due to increase the department’s capacity and expand its services to include cardiac, bariatric and paediatric procedures. Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury, part of the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, has installed an Artis zeeTM Multi-purpose (MP) interventional imaging system from Siemens Healthcare. The system is being used for vascular and interventional work, including stent insertions, joint injections and embolisations. The hospital is benefitting from reference overlay, allowing the precise positioning of stents or interventional devices such as inferior vena cava (IVC) filters. More

St. James’s Institute of Oncology, part of St. James’s University Hospital in Leeds affectionately known as ‘Jimmy’s’, has recently installed a MAGNETOM® Aera 1.5 Tesla MRI system from Siemens Healthcare. The hospital is one of Europe’s largest teaching hospitals, and the St. James's Institute of Oncology contains 10 floors dedicated to some of the best treatment for cancer patients available anywhere in the world. The new MAGNETOM Aera installation has joined two existing Siemens MRI systems at the hospital and replaced a legacy Siemens MRI setup. The new system is handling high-end dynamic imaging including breast procedures, biopsies and liver imaging. More

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) has selected Siemens Healthcare to manage a 13-year Imaging Infrastructure Support Service (IISS) partnership. The partnership demonstrates the Trust’s long-term commitment to the Imaging Department in providing excellent levels of patient care using the latest diagnostic equipment. Based on the MES concept, the IISS contract is expected to add additional capacity, allowing the Trust to improve throughput and diagnose and treat increasing numbers of patients. More

The UK launch of the ACUSON FreestyleTM wireless ultrasound system featuring wireless transducers from Siemens Healthcare recently took place at the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS) Annual Scientific Meeting and Exhibition. Delegates were able to explore the new system, as well as view live demonstrations of other products in the ACUSON ultrasound family including the P300TM and the X700TM. Delegates noted the ACUSON Freestyle’s clear imaging quality and portability, and were excited by its potential applications across a wide number of clinical environments. More

Musgrove Park Hospital, part of Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, has installed a SOMATOM® Definition Flash CT system from Siemens Healthcare. The hospital, announced as a regional trauma centre in 2012, is using the system to support its cardiology services, in addition to providing oncology, vascular and general trauma imaging. The Definition Flash is assisting departmental workflow thanks to its rapid imaging times, currently enabling around 250 patients to be scanned weekly. More

Siemens Healthcare has developed a revolutionary new X-ray tube and detector technology for its Artis Q and Artis Q.zen angiography systems to improve minimally invasive therapy of diseases such as coronary artery disease, stroke and cancer. In both the Artis Q and Artis Q.zen series, the new X-ray tube with unique flat emitter technology can help to identify small vessels up to 70 percent better than conventional filament X-ray tube technology. The Artis Q.zen combines its innova-tive X-ray source with a new detector technology that supports interventional imaging in ultra-low-dose ranges. This helps to protect patients, doctors and medical staff, especially during longer interventions. St James’s University Hospital in Leeds, part of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, has installed two Ysio wi-DTM systems from Siemens Healthcare. Following the digital X-ray installations, chest imaging workflow in the hospital’s Emergency Department and wards has been boosted. In addition to wireless X-ray detectors for general imaging procedures, both systems also feature a vertical bucky for chest examinations. This combination enhances patient comfort removing the need for patients to be transferred to the examination table. More

Chapel Allerton Hospital in Leeds has installed a state-of-the-art ACUSON S2000™ ultrasound system from Siemens Healthcare. The system is being used for scans on sports injuries, including tendon assessments and ultrasound-guided intervention. The patients are from a number of professional sports clubs both nationally and around the Yorkshire region. More
