The first of four new imaging systems from Siemens Healthcare has been installed at Russells Hall Hospital, part of The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust. The Artis zeeTM ceiling-mounted system was unveiled as part of a new angiography suite opened by MP for Stourbridge, Margot James. It will be used for a wide range of diagnostic and Interventional Radiology procedures including endovascular aortic repairs (EVAR). More

Carol Young, Radiographer at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust has won the Siemens Healthcare International CT Image Contest in the Cardiac category for her ‘Tetralogy of Fallots’ case. The image, which was captured on a Siemens Healthcare SOMATOM® Definition scanner, was chosen for its image quality and obtained using the lowest radiation dose. More

Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital has become the 50th hospital in the UK to install syngo®.via from Siemens Healthcare. The advanced client-server application is initially being used with a newly installed SOMATOM® Definition Flash CT for the swift collation, pre-processing and interpretation of clinical images. It has already allowed the hospital to reduce queues for workstations and it is hoped will eventually improve overall departmental workflow. In due course it will also be linked to MRI image reporting. More

The NHS National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has published guidance approving NHS use of new generation scanners to help diagnose and manage patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) who are difficult to image. The guidance, which was prompted by Siemens proffering its SOMATOM® Definition Flash dual source scanner for evaluation, draws evidence from 24 published papers of which 20 cited use of Siemens dual source scanners. Dual source CT remains unique to Siemens scanners, and utilises two X-ray sources and two banks of detectors. Such developments have enabled continuous improvement of spatial and temporal resolution to optimise visualisation within the coronary vessel, whilst also driving down radiation dose. More

The system is the first in the North West and was officially opened by Professor Helen Carty, High Sheriff of Merseyside. The Trust will benefit from unrivalled image quality at the lowest dose and the ability to provide a wider range of services to patients. More
