Patient Safety
The Institute of Medicine estimates that 1.5 million patients are injured each year from preventable medical errors in U.S. hospitals. It is also estimated that the annual economic costs to treat medical errors is 3.5 billion. However, technologies such as computerized physician order entry (CPOE), e-prescribing, clinical decision support and bar coding are helping reduce errors and save lives.
