Siemens Healthcare: About Us
Siemens Healthcare, with headquarters in Malvern, Pennsylvania, and Erlangen, Germany, is a healthcare technology innovation leader. Bringing together a unique set of innovative medical imaging, clinical diagnostics, healthcare information technology, management consulting, and related services, Siemens helps healthcare providers achieve improved clinical workflow, gains in productivity and efficiency, and higher levels of quality, accuracy and safety.
Siemens has strengthened its position as a complete healthcare solutions provider by investing in or acquiring businesses that support its solutions strategy, including the acquisitions of ACUSON Corporation and Shared Medical Systems, Inc. in 2000, and CTI Molecular Imaging, Inc. in 2005.
In 2006, Siemens acquired Diagnostic Products Corporation (DPC), and announced its intent to acquire Bayer Healthcare’s Diagnostics Division, marking Siemens’ entrance into the world of in-vitro diagnostics (IVD). In 2007, Siemens finalized the acquisition on Bayer Diagnostics as well as Dade Behring Holdings, Inc., making Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics the largest clinical diagnostics company in the world. As the world’s first integrated healthcare company, Siemens is committed to addressing the complex challenges facing the healthcare industry, today and tomorrow.
In November 2011, Siemens Healthcare acquired health information exchange (HIE) vendor MobileMD. The move was made because Siemens considers the HIE to be a foundational requirement for healthcare providers to connect diverse and various electronic health record (EHR) systems both within and outside their integrated delivery network (IDN) accountable care organization (ACO) network to exchange patient information. This information will need to be collected, normalized and transformed into actionable data that will enable providers to apply best practices to managing patient-centered care. This data-rich environment can become the foundation for new accountable care applications that drive operational efficiencies across the diverse IT systems within the IDN/ACO.
