Siemens innovations span a wide range of medical solutions, this provides the customer an opportunity to obtain all the medical technology from a single provider. This includes a comprehensive plan for long term enterprise-wide upgrades in technology and software as well as a single on-site service capability for enterprise-wide responsibility. Siemens even offers to lead a consortium including the building partner to coordinate the entire project for the customer in a turnkey approach.
Siemens provides a syngo-based IT architecture throughout all conventional, diagnostic and particle therapy areas. With its IT infrastructure, Siemens ensures data availability across the entire center. Sophisticated information management systems enables the customer to monitor and assist in workflow management.
In addition to offering proton therapy, Siemens also delivers the availability of carbon ion therapy. By offering the possibility to treat patients with carbon ions, Siemens enables the medical community to verify and extend the research of carbon ion treatments in a clinical environment.
While proton beams are already by far superior to photons from a physical point of view, carbon ions are even superior to protons. Due to less depth and lateral scattering, carbon ions result in an even sharper Bragg peak than protons. While protons are comparable to photons considering their radiobiological beam properties, carbon ions show a superior treatment in this aspect as well. Due to the higher relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of carbon ions, the number of treatment fractions (irradiations) can be decreased when using carbon ions.
Through collaborations with acknowledged research institutes and component suppliers, Siemens has the capability to offer a system with state-of-the-art technology.
