Siemens Healthcare (www.siemens.com/healthcare) announces the donation and implementation of important medical equipment to the China Red Cross and the Sichuan Provincial Healthcare Bureau, aiding in medical treatment of those affected by the May 12 earthquake that hit the Chinese province of Sichuan. The equipment was quickly routed to the disaster area to assist in the treatment of survivors. The donation of medical equipment follows Siemens EUR 180,000 cash donation and brings Siemens total contribution of aid to the Sichuan earthquake disaster to EUR 540,000. More

Siemens: Medical Systems and Services for Müller-Wohlfahrt Clinic in Munich

Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt recently opened a new orthopedic clinic in Munich. The clinic features state-of-the-art medical systems from Siemens Healthcare, including a 1.5-tesla magnetic resonance imager, an X-ray system, several ultrasound units, and an image archiving and communication system specifically designed for radiology applications. A 3-tesla magnetic resonance system for patient images with even higher resolution is to be installed later this year. Additionally, the renowned expert for sports medicine has entered into a ten-year strategic innovation agreement with Siemens. Under the agreement, Siemens will provide maintenance and ongoing updates to the systems of the Munich-based clinic, both in the form of software updates and by replacing the existing systems with next generation models. In his new position, Quinn succeeds Jim Reid-Anderson, who on May 1st became the new CEO of this sector. The CEO of the Siemens Healthcare Sector, Erich R. Reinhardt (61), will resign his position on the Managing Board of Siemens AG effective April 30, 2008. With this move, he is responding to the new findings of Debevoise & Plimpton regarding compliance cases in the former Siemens Medical Solutions Group. Based on current information, Reinhardt was not personally involved. He will continue to serve the company in a consultative capacity. The Chairman’s Committee of the Supervisory Board will propose to the Supervisory Board that Jim Reid-Anderson (49), previously CEO of the Diagnostics Division in the Healthcare Sector, be appointed as Reinhardt’s successor. Siemens Healthcare announced that Soarian Health Archive, its digital archive and document management solution, provides enhanced archiving and document management functionality for different kind of documents and data that occur in a hospital. The Soarian Health Archive platform is based on the archiving solution from yanistra GmbH, a subsidiary of the Gesellschaft fuer Systemforschung und Dienstleistungen im Gesundheitswesen mbH (GSD). During the ongoing “10.000er-Tests” for the electronic health card in Germany, more than 80 percent of all participating hospitals, doctors' offices and pharmacies in the test regions are using the CardOS HealthCare Connector from Siemens Healthcare. The connector provides the link between the IT infrastructure of healthcare service providers and the nationwide central telematic infrastructure. Siemens was the first manufacturer to submit its new connector hardware to the Gesellschaft für Telematikanwendungen der Gesundheitskarte mbH (gematik) in mid-March, where it was successfully tested for use with the online insurance master data service. Thus, Siemens currently claims a top market position in Germany for connectors for the electronic health card – also from a technological point of view. More
