Future applications of the Molecular Imaging and genomic/proteomic knowledge promises far-reaching benefits to patient treatment. Gene tests have been among the first commercial products of new genetic discoveries. These tests can be used to diagnose disease before symptoms occur, provide prognostic information and predict disease in progeny. Imaging similar molecular disease markers would add spatial localization to the identified abnormalities.

Molecular Imaging research have spurred a boom in academic and more recently industrial sectors. To stimulate further research, Siemens will play an active role in Molecular Imaging research and development and foster wide-spread collaborations. Our goal is to generate novel methods of imaging molecular targets and signaling networks, which underlie disease processes.
