Worldwide, five percent of all people over the age of 65 suffer from atrial fibrillation. While cardiac arrhythmia can be treated with medication, patients have to take it for the rest of their lives. Ablation therapy offers an alternative: myocardial cells in the left atrium are obliterated to interrupt the problematic pathway. However, every patient is different. For this reason, electro physiologists have to be able to discern the size and shape of the left ventricle in precise detail during the intervention. Syngo DynaCT Cardiac provides the necessary support: the software from Siemens Medical Solutions provides three-dimensional displays of the ventricle. The physician is able to view the 3-D object from all sides ? even during an intervention. More

In what could prove to be a turning point in diagnosis and therapy for millions of patients suffering from neurological diseases, stroke and cancer, Siemens Medical Solutions showed results of a prototype for the world¡¯s first fully-functioning imaging system capable of performing simultaneously Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET). The first in-vivo human brain simultaneous MR-PET images were acquired in the Siemens facilities in USA. Testing of this new prototype MR-PET will start before the end of 2007. More

To cooperate and find solutions together is often a far more successful approach. The results of the cooperative efforts between Siemens Medical Solutions and Biosense Webster, Inc. in electrophysiology confirm this statement. The two companies are working together for more efficient electrophysiology ablation procedures and to shorten the treatment time for the patient. The results have been incorporated into the Sensis XP systems by Siemens, which now communi-cates bidirectionally with the electroanatomical mapping system of Biosense Webster. On this basis, Siemens introduces a new generation of integrated work-places for all hemodynamic and electrophysiological examinations that improve clinical workflow in the cath lab. More
