Among laboratories surveyed since the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 were implemented, the number one deficiency has been a lack of compliance with quality control requirements.
In light of this issue, the AACC (American Association for Clinical Chemistry) will hold a webinar entitled “Laboratory QC: Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Practice” on June 17, 2009, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM EDT.
The webinar is aimed at laboratory managers, laboratory supervisors, medical technologists, and other laboratory personnel who are interested in learning more about performance standards. It will show you how to design effective quality control procedures and evaluate your own existing QC practices. During the 90-minute interactive webinar, two experts – a medical doctor and a quality consultant – will provide real-world examples of how performance standards set by laboratories affect patient care. This event is supported in part by an educational grant from Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics. As part of continuing education, the program is approved by AACC for a maximum of 1.5 Category 1 ACCENT credit hours.
During the interactive webinar, quality consultant Zoë Brooks will present an exercise to help determine the gaps in your current QC practices and provide tools to fix them. She will answer questions on QC practices and will share EXCEL templates to evaluate and understand QC results. Dr. David Seccombe from the Canadian External Quality Assessment Laboratory will talk about performance standards and provide real-world examples of how they set the stage for performance-driven QC. Webinar participants can also perform a “gap analysis” of their own QC practices with an instant online polling and find out how to properly bridge those gaps.
