The handheld ACUSON P10 ultrasound system helps to do quick assessment in emergency medicine.
The ACUSON P10™ ultrasound system was highlighted at the Firehouse Expo 2008, a conference for fire and emergency professionals held in Baltimore, Maryland end of July 2008. The handheld system, which is a little larger than a common PDA, weighs only 1.6 pounds, and fits easily into the medical bag or coat pocket of emergency personnel. It delivers on demand ultrasound imaging at first patient contact and is intended for complementary initial diagnostic care and triage, particularly in emergency care, but also in cardiology and obstetrics.
“Not since the introduction of the stethoscope has one tool promised to do more to enhance emergency medicine and triage,” said Kristin Woitovich, Market Manager, Siemens Healthcare, Business Unit Ultrasound. “Its immediate availability, application flexibility and portability will ultimately change in the way emergency care is administered.”
The ACUSON P10 system can be used by physicians and medical personnel in almost any environment including ambulances, helicopters and intensive care units. In emergency situations, it is the point of care exam tool allowing for earlier, faster and more accurate screening and triage decisions. Emergency exams such as FAST (Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma) enable medical personnel to detect free fluid in and around the heart, lungs, and abdomen, determine cardiac activity and perform pelvic exams.
“In emergency situations, such as fires or other natural disasters, you have the need for rapid patient assessment. And in many environments like helicopters or ambulances, you have limited space,” said Klaus Hambüchen, Chief Executive Officer, Siemens Healthcare, Business Unit Ultrasound. “The ACUSON P10 system is the ideal solution to bring ultrasound imaging to these scenarios. It is small and portable, and it is digital, so images can be saved and transmitted easily.”
Bridging the gap between the stethoscope and an ultrasound machine, the multifunctional pocket ultrasound system enables more substantiated and fast decision-making regarding the subsequent course of treatment for the patient.
The ACUSON P10 system will also be showcased at the EMS EXPO, the largest annual gathering of EMS, rescue and fire personnel in the United States, taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, October 13- 17, 2008.
