For more than 100 years, National Jewish Health has sought to offer patients the very best medical care for respiratory, allergic, and related diseases. Recently, the hospital launched a new personalized medicine strategy. In collaboration with Siemens, National Jewish Health is focused on delivering individualized diagnoses and advanced treatments.
With a shared vision of preventive and personalized medicine, the partnership between Siemens and National Jewish Health will allow for the improvement and development of novel imaging and diagnostic technologies using genomics, proteomics, integrated research, and clinical care. “Personalized medicine is about the right diagnosis and treatment for the individual patient,” says Michael Salem, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of National Jewish Health. “By combining our strengths in technology, patient care, and research, Siemens and National Jewish Health will advance the idea of early detection and prevention, and enable more accurate diagnoses.”
The hospital plans to merge research with clinical efforts, giving physicians the ability to detect disease earlier and offer more precise diagnoses. National Jewish Health will integrate Siemens technology throughout the facility’s 19-acre Denver campus. These technologies include SOMATOM® Definition, SOMATOM Sensation 64, MAGNETOM® Avanto, syngo® Imaging and syngo Workflow, Biograph™ 40, ARCADIS™ Avantic, and c.cam. The Institute for Advanced Biomedical Imaging, which opened its doors in the spring of 2008, houses two Siemens computed tomography (CT) systems and one PET•CT (positron emission tomography-CT) system. Siemens and National Jewish Health are also launching several collaborative research projects.
In addition to equipment and technology, Siemens Financial Services, Inc. (Siemens Financial) provided National Jewish Health with a financial assistance package. “From a financial standpoint, when we looked at Siemens Financial, we were looking for a broad agreement with a broad scope with a wide range of criteria,” says Christine Forkner, Chief Financial Officer at National Jewish Health. “Across the board, we found Siemens Financial to be the most competitive, offering the best rate, and they were very willing to work with us and understand our needs.”
