The digital mammography platform MAMMOMAT Inspiration can be used for screening, diagnostics, biopsy, and, in the future, also for tomosynthesis. Now the optional biopsy upgrade kit is available, enabling radiologists to perform stereotactic biopsy on one and the same detector. What further simplifies the process is that only one Acquisition Workstation is required for all applications available with MAMMOMAT Inspiration.

Intuitive and automated workflow Stereotactic biopsy with MAMMOMAT Inspiration represents a highly integrated biopsy solution with a small foot-print. The lightweight biopsy unit (< 5 kg) is just slid upon the detector. Hardware configurations and the user interface on the Acquisition Workstation are then automatically set for stereotactic biopsy. The user interface guides intuitively through the biopsy procedure. The workflow has been automated to a high degree, for instance due to the remote tube control of movements directly from the workstation. Biopsies can be performed from any view and with either vertical or lateral needle guidance.

The biopsy images are acquired on the same FFDM detector as the screening and diagnostic images. Moreover, they are processed with the same Siemens image processing application, Opview 2, at the syngo-based AWS Acquisition Workstation. The image quality for biopsy images and screening or diagnostic images is thus equally excellent.
