An Artis® zee multi-purpose interventional imaging system was recently installed in the radiology department at Kingston Hospital NHS Trust in Surrey, United Kingdom. Though this system was selected for its peripheral angiography and angioplasty procedures, it will also be used for testicular vein and uterine artery embolisation, vertebroplasty, and renal and hepatobiliary work.
Siemens Artis zee multi-purpose system is a multifunctional digital C-arm system for performing angiography and radiography examinations. This system offers functionality and versatility through its flexible architecture and versatile clinical applications. It was built with three fundamental principles in mind: imaging excellence, enhanced workflow, and investment confidence. Imaging excellence is reached with various applications which provide an improved visualization of therapeutic devices. This means patients will be attended to with greater speed and accuracy. Enhanced workflow is achieved through the new, ergonomically designed controls. The system simplifies workflow because every phase of care delivery is streamlined, making clinical teams function effectively. Supported by the industry’s most comprehensive customer care program, Life, this system is a confident investment. The program Life provides that hospital staff and the system technology is continuously updated and upgraded based on the latest developments.
Clinicians at Kingston Hospital use two Artis zee radiation-reducing features: CAREPOSITION allows patients to be accurately positioned without the use of radiation. CAREVISION does not use continuous fluoroscopy, but instead uses pulsed fluoroscopy as low as 0.5 p/s. Both of these features provide high-quality images even though radiation doses are lowered considerably. Artis zee has also made it possible to perform three angiograms in the same time that it had formerly taken to complete two. This gives hospitals time to examine more patients and provide faster results. In Kingston Hospital it has allowed the Radiology Department to organize their days more efficiently and to offer new services. “The system provides images of a very high standard incredibly quickly, while submitting the patient to significantly less dose. The system is very user friendly and post processing is excellent, especially during angiography-just what a radiographer requires.” stated Amanda Kenevin, Superintendent Radiographer at Kingston Hospital.
