Musgrove Park Hospital, part of Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust in the United Kingdom, replaced their eight-year old cardiac imaging system with an Artis zee® interventional cardiac imaging system. In addition to Artis zee, an AXIOM® Sensis XP hemodynamic monitoring system was installed for the optimization of workflow. The floor-mounted Artis zee system will be used for coronary angiography, angioplasty, and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). It was installed in response to the increase in demand for CRT services being currently provided by the hospital. CRT is a proven treatment for patients with chronic heart failure, a disease that occurs more frequently with age. Another part of the hospital’s strategic plan to support the area’s aging population is to provide percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) treatment around the clock.
Artis zee is an excellent choice in interventional cardiac imaging systems owing to its exceptional flexibility and advanced imaging capabilities. The system’s Multispace feature enables exceptional patient access by allowing free positioning of the C-arm and table. The IC Stent™ software, yet another feature, will be most beneficial with the start of the PCI treatment services. IC Stent is a processing package which enhances the visibility of a deployed stent allowing for better judgment on the outcome of the interventional procedure.
AXIOM Sensis XP integrates with Artis zee, fitting seamlessly into the network of cardiac data and image management systems previously installed at the hospital. This aids in providing diagnosis and reporting more efficiently. “It is a wonderful system to work with. In addition to the fantastic imaging and system flexibility, patient throughput has been greatly improved, reducing the pressure on staff and the hospital as a whole,” remarks Gill Stapleton Smith, Lead Cardiac Radiographer at Musgrove Hospital.
