At the Bautzen and Bischofswerda hospitals operated by Oberlausitz-Kliniken gGmbH in Germany, newly installed innovations in medical technology are boosting performance and effectiveness. That was what hospital administrators aimed to achieve – always keeping an eye on budget issues and targets. They decided to purchase high-end units from the Siemens Healthcare Sector’s portfolio. Siemens Financial Services (SFS) handled the financing of this investment. The healthcare facility Oberlausitz-Kliniken gGmbH is a nonprofit limited liability company established in the rural district of Bautzen, Germany. It has 1,300 employees and operates two hospitals, with a combined total of about 610 beds in the Bautzen and Bischofswerda locations.
For the modernization, the hospital operators placed their trust in the technological expertise supplied by Siemens – as well as in the financing know-how provided by the same company. SFS presented a hire-purchase model tailored precisely to the company’s specific budget requirements. It distributes the financing of the purchase price over three annual installments, putting it perfectly in line with Oberlausitz’ executive management’s expectations. For companies that are not entitled to deduct payment of input tax, like Oberlausitz-Kliniken gGmbH, it is important for value-added tax (VAT) to be financed at the same time. SFS charges VAT on the purchase value only, and not – as it is otherwise common practice – on the sum of all installments in the rent-to-own program.
The modernization initiative operated by Oberlausitz-Kliniken gGmbH has two key highlights: new computed tomography (CT) systems for even faster, more reliable diagnoses, and state-of-the-art, high-end X-ray units to enhance the facilities’ medical imaging performance. To accomplish this, the hospitals ordered the SOMATOM® Definition and Emotion CT models and high-end C-arm systems from the AXIOM® and ARCADIS® product families. “During the modernization of our medical technology infrastructure, the fact that Siemens offered innovative technology and intelligent financing from a single source convinced us. Siemens Healthcare, as the technology supplier, and Siemens Financial Services, as the financing provider, proved to be high-performance partners in our modernization strategy,” says Managing Director Reiner E. Rogowski.
