Andy Roddick, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Sebastien Grosjean - what do they all have in common? They were all fighting to win the prestigious men’s tennis tournament Artois Championship, which took place in June 2008 at The Queen’s Club in London, UK. To make sure that they were able to play, medical assistance was offered throughout the tournament to take care of injuries without delay. Siemens newly launched and advanced ultrasound solution, the ACUSON S2000™ ultrasound system, was part of the equipment available for providing imaging assistance at the tournament.
The ACUSON S2000 ultrasound system draws together the latest imaging innovations to deliver excellent image quality, to optimize workflow and simplify examinations. “The image quality of the ACUSON S2000 system is perfect, and has allowed us to clearly examine sports injuries throughout the tournament,” states Dr. John Gayner, Tournament Doctor for Artois Championships.
At the tournament, the ultrasound system was used at the second day of trials, when French tennis star Sebastien Grosjean (on the left) was forced to retire due to a muscle injury in his left leg. “In the past, we would have had to wait for the results from the magnetic resonance imaging scan to obtain necessary images. With the ACUSON S2000 system on site, we could provide an accurate diagnosis immediately,” comments Gayner. This is important in order to ensure that tennis championship players have the highest standards of care during the tournament. The ACUSON S2000 system is a state-of-the-art product and also offers versatility off the court - inside the traditional hospital environment, at other sporting events or injury clinics.
