Amstelland Hospital, situated in Amstelveen, the Netherlands, adopts Siemens‘ Soarian Health Archive for digital archiving of all medical records and digital photos. Dermatology is the first specialty to implement the digital archive and documentation management solution. Main reasons for the 255 bed hospital to adopt a digital archive were the increasing numbers of digital dossiers from external physicians as well as of digital patient photos taken during consultation hours.
Digital archiving as a logical result
Therefore, the hospital decided to opt for one central interface for patient-related information. “It suits this day and age, most general practitioners have worked with electronic filing for years, and the hospital is starting with it just now. We take a lot of digital photos during consultation hours; filing these photos digitally in electronic patient records is a logical result,“ says Wouter Goldschmidt, dermatologist at Amstelland Hospital.
Seamless Interoperability
Another reason to choose Siemens’ solution has been that Soarian Health Archive fits perfectly into the hospital’s established system landscape as it is capable of interoperating seamlessly with the SAP-based Clinical Information System i.s.h.med by Siemens. “It seems no more than logical to integrate everything into one system. Lab results, X-ray images, and digital photos can be retrieved quickly and directly,” says Goldschmidt. Implementing Siemens‘ Soarian Health Archive has made digital archiving feasible in only six weeks time. According to Goldschmidt, Amstelland Hospital expects more comfort, less paperwork, as well as clear and definite filing which is accessible and readable for everybody who is authorized. In adopting the system, dermatology will be followed by the surgical ward. A further rollout of Soarian Health Archive is planned.
