Centro Médico Imbanaco (CMI), a hospital located in the western Columbian city of Cali, opened its doors 30 years ago as outpatient operation center. Since then, the clinic has grown at record pace and now, with the help of Siemens Healthcare Turnkey Group, CMI will reopen its services in a brand new Siemens designed and workflow optimized facility. The hospital includes a new architectural design, provision of medical equipment, as well as consistent benchmarking with other top hospitals for process and procedure optimization.
New solutions for emerging markets
Today, Centro Médico Imbanaco offers nearly a full range of care, an important attribute for a hospital serving a city with a population of nearly three million and also much of Southwest Colombia. The hospital wants to use its new workflow optimized architecture to provide future-oriented care and become the leader in the Columbian market. The existing space limitations and future growth ambitions forced CMI to consider this workflow optimized architecture. The Siemens Turnkey and Consulting Group was contracted due to its global expertise in hospital designs. Knowing Colombia, as being an exporter for clinical and medical services and a front runner in South America, this hospital will serve as a lighthouse project for this region.
Equipped for the future
The first phase of the expansion project has already been completed. The Siemens Turnkey group and its consultants have analyzed workflows and processes in all departments and undertaken benchmarking activities. So far, the clinicians and staff appear to be pleased – the hospital CEO, Armando Gonzales, even calling the cooperation with the consultants “outstanding.” In the coming weeks, the concept design for the new facility will be finalized, including a simulation of the crucial clinical processes. At the end of the project, the new hospital is expected to be equipped with 300 patient beds, comprehensive treatment centers, 14 operating rooms, as well as state-of-the-art medical equipment and clinical systems.
