The installation of Ysio, a general X-ray system featuring a wireless detector (wi-D™), at Hythe Hospital, UK, a centre of orthopaedic excellence run by Hampshire Community Health Care (HCHC), has evidently reduced patient examination times and furthermore eased the daily strain on radiographers.
Consequently, the flexibility of the system and the portable detector have reduced patient discomfort during procedures. For example, the detector plate can be positioned without transfering the patients onto the Bucky table. This is not only more comfortable for patients in wheelchairs or on trolleys, but also reduces the amount of manual patient handling required. “Procedure time has been significantly reduced and patients no longer complain about discomfort during procedures – they’re actually asking why it was so quick,” says Sandra Thomas, Senior Radiographer at Hythe Hospital.
