Computed tomography (CT) is a widely available and cost-effective technology for acute care imaging. Siemens z-SharpTM Technology on SOMATOM® Definition scanners enables high-resolution scanning without increasing the patient’s X-ray exposure. The SOMATOM Definition scanners’ high-capacity table turns previously difficult scans of bariatric patients into clinical routine. For fast and safe diagnoses in the emergency room (ER), Siemens developed powerful clinical applications and makes them available through the comprehensive CT Acute Care Engine:
syngo® Circulation Pulmonary Emboli (PE) detection1 allows to instantaneously evaluate the cardiac and pulmonary vessels by finding PEs. Coronary stenoses can be quickly detected and robustly quantified with syngo Circulation. Aortic dissections can be rapidly ruled out with syngo InSpace 4D AVA (Advanced Vessel Analysis). syngo Dual Energy (DE) Lung Vessels helps to visualize lung vessels after a PE. syngo DE Lung Perfused Blood Volume (PBV) helps to visualize perfusion defects in lung parenchyma caused by PE.
The time slot for life-saving diagnoses is short and requires fast visualization capabilities of high-resolution datasets as provided by syngo InSpace4D AVA. syngo DE Bone Removal instantly removes bone and calcium for true lumen visualization.
Modern IT infrastructure is also key. For example, when an ER radiologist wants to reconstruct the abdominal aorta in 3D to confirm a leak, he or she would need to request the 3D lab to trace the aorta, then reload the reformatted images onto the PACS. This process is very time consuming but crucial for a proper therapy decision. Thin-client server solutions like syngo WebSpace solve this problem by enabling real-time reconstructions of thin-slice images.
syngo InSpace4D AVA is ideally suited for a thorough analysis of large abdominal datasets in high resolution. Specifically for Dual Source CT (SOMATOM Definition, SOMATOM Definition Flash), syngo DE Optimum Contrast and syngo DE Bone Removal further speed up diagnosis, providing new opportunities such as kidney stone characterization or vessel analysis with instant true lumen display.
syngo Neuro Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) CT significantly reduces reading time through quick bone removal for intra- and extracranial vessels even in difficult areas such as the base of the skull. CT volume perfusion imaging with Siemens Adaptive 4D Spiral and syngo Volume Perfusion CT Neuro can be used to quickly diagnose acute ischemic stroke in the ER to see the whole disease. The widespread use of CT volume perfusion helps to save time, to target treatment, and to reduce the risks of inappropriate lysis.
