The Siemens equipment includes the ONCOR Expression™ linear accelerator, the first linear accelerator in Egypt with a cone beam imaging package. The ONCOR Expression linear accelerator’s leading-edge technologies enable high-quality treatment applications, such as IMRT, IGRT and Stereotactic Radiation Therapy. Siemens Biograph™ TruePoint PET•CT provides clinical accuracy and speed to diagnosis, with superb image quality for improved diagnostic confidence. Additional clinical data is provided through the extremely high image definition of the open-bore magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system MAGNETOM^® Espree 1.5T. With its wider and shallower gantry, the scanner provides greater patient comfort and shorter sessions, both essential in treating children.

The equipment is integrated through several planning and information management systems. Siemens KonRad™ Inverse Planning Software is ideal for treatment areas where an accurate and highly conformal dose is essential and where organ or normal tissue sparing is a requirement. “KonRad [software] is an easy, user-friendly planning system that allows us to design and implement a large number of treatment plans within a short time; plus it lets us optimize the dose within a short time,” explains Dr. Mohamed Saad Zaghlol, Director of Radiation Oncology at CCCH.

The KonRad software, in turn, is linked by the LANTIS™ Oncology Information System, a complete electronic medical record (EMR) system, to the linear accelerators. In addition, the 4-D radiation therapy workflow at the hospital is streamlined through the use of the syngo^® MultiModality Workplace package, which provides seamless integration with the hospital’s HIS, as well as a 4-D viewing module dual timepoint fusion, and tools for localization, reference point management and simulation.
