The Allgemeine Krankenhaus (AKH) Celle (general hospital) in Germany has been able to considerably improve radiology workflow with the installation of syngo® Imaging. The employees were not only excited about the digital Siemens digital picture archiving and communication system (PACS), but also about the quick conversion to the new system. “There were only a mere 15 weeks between the installation and final inspection,” says Dr. Klaus Kamin, Chief Physician of Radiology at IKM in Celle. “And that fast is record-breaking.” The conversion from the previous radiology information system (RIS) to syngo Imaging was a complete success from the very beginning. “The would-be interface problems were solved by Siemens specialist in three days,” says Wilfried Schröter, the Director of Medical Technology at AKM Celle.
The Radiology department has taken an important step into the future with the installation of the Siemens imaging administration software: Now, diagnostic images, for instance from computed tomography, can be retrieved in the operating room or doctor’s office - with just the click of a mouse. This is a significant improvement for the entire hospital workflow – what can be life saving in an emergency.
According to clinical trails from Siemens, up to 50 percent of the time expenditure for radiological examinations can be saved with the help of IT in radiology; time that can be valuable for the patient.
syngo Imaging provides advantages in the clinical routine for everyone involved. “The quicker the radiological images are available, the more efficiently I can help my patient,” says Dr. Rainer Meyer-Scell, Head of the Hospital for Accident and Rehabilitation Surgery. “An image that we archive from the outset in PACS from Siemens, can always be retrieved,” adds Silvia Katzsch, medical-technical radiology assistant.
The digital management of the images has allowed AKH Celle to make time-consuming search for images a thing of the past. Users have quickly gotten used to the new PACS system, because the operation is simple through such functions as Smart Select. Smart Select is a software tool, which can be used to access the most frequently needed functions directly in the diagnostic screen. “If we want to present ourselves as an innovate hospital, then we have to show, that we are open to the most modern technology (…). With syngo Imaging from Siemens, we are contributing to quality improvement and efficiency enhancement.” says Head of Radiology Klaus Kamin.
