The IFCC Working Group on Standardization of Hemoglobin A1c has made recommendations toward global standardization of HbA1c assay results. A reference method has been developed and a consensus statement has been published (Diabetes Care 2007;30:2399 – 400) that recommends reporting HbA1c results in both SI (mmol/mol) and in NGSP-derived units (%), using the IFCC-NGSP master equation.
