eHealth & Emerging Trends
| Description: | The healthcare industry is beginning to realize that the power to fix the system is within the industry and the industry alone. But, until recently, fragmented initiatives have worked—sometimes in different directions—to correct the fragmented system. Recently we are seeing collaboration across the industry and politics, processes and technology are beginning to align, making technology advancement now a reality. Market forces are driving collaborative, industry-wide solutions that respond to challenges in the industry. |
| Topic: | Dr. David Brailer has unveiled his National Health Information Infrastructure, and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) announced a strategic business alliance with leading healthcare IT companies to provide electronic health record technology to medical practices. These initiatives demonstrate the industry’s willingness to collaborate on solutions, standardize on connectivity interfaces between systems, jointly develop interoperability standards, and offer discount pricing on technology and services all to speed deployment and adoption. A similar initiative is being driven by The Health Collaborative Network, a public-private partnership aiming to improve healthcare through applied information technology and standards. The Collaborative’s vision is that consumers, providers, and those responsible for population health will have ready access to timely, relevant, reliable and secure healthcare information through an interconnected, electronic health information infrastructure. Forming this infrastructure will require broad participation within our industry – which is already happening – as well as innovation, passion and vision from those involved in the work. And it all starts with driving integration within the health enterprise itself and expanding outward. |
