Siemens on TV: The Truth About 4D Ultrasound
The first sight of a baby through 4D ultrasound technology can be very exciting for parents. But while the procedure can be entertaining, experts say ultrasounds are an important medical procedure and should be treated as such.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned against "entertainment ultrasounds" that are only used to look at live, three-dimensional shots of a baby. Doctors and associations like the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine say ultrasounds should be done under the supervision of a physician and with a trained sonographer - who can evaluate the fetus and make sure there isn't anything wrong.
Ultrasounds can provide parents with some amazing pictures, but more importantly, it can give doctors the information they need to better monitor a baby's development.
