Siemens on TV: Connecting Physicians and Patients 24/7
Imagine being able to communicate with your doctor’s office 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Thanks to new technology, accessing information about your health and your healthcare whenever and wherever you need it is getting closer to reality every day.
More than 200 healthcare providers in the South Sound Health Communication Network in the Seattle-Tacoma area are using new web-based technology to keep everyone in the healthcare network linked electronically. Instead of old-fashioned paper records, doctors and patients can access personal health records, medical files, referrals, billing information and even e-mail one another through the system.
The secure and efficient system could be a model for a national electronic medical record. The system’s security features prevent third parties from accessing private patient information. At the same time, it helps to minimize faxes, phone calls and the like while providing patients the information they need to participate more fully in their healthcare experience.
