What is syngo SWI?

In a matter of minutes, syngo SWI enables you to see the most subtle bleeding in the brain, without x-ray or iodine contrast. Helping physicians diagnose a possible stroke and better define the type of stroke they’re dealing with, or rule one out.

syngo SWI, a unique Siemens technique, is extremely sensitive to deoxygenated blood present in blood products, or in the vascular system. syngo SWI works using syngo GRAPPA, Siemens Parallel Acquisition Technique algorithm that greatly reduces acquisition times without sacrificing image quality. syngo SWI provides more precise information about hemorrhage, venous and arterio-venous malformation, enabling faster, more confident diagnoses.

Powered by Tim, syngo SWI is more accurate. And with the high signal of Tim’s 12-channel Head Matrix, even the smallest lesions can be seen and diagnosed very quickly using Parallel Imaging techniques.

Clinical applications

syngo SWI shows promising results for many hard-to-diagnose diseases:

  • Vascular malformations
See small venous and arterio-venous anomalies, even in low-flow abnormalities. syngo SWI provides high conspicuity in the case of telengiectasias, cavernomas, and venous angiomas.
  • Stroke
Visualize bleeding with higher confidence compared to diagnosis with other MR sequences. And combine DWI and syngo SWI to better evaluate stroke patients and make rapid treatment decisions.
  • Traumatic brain injury
Visualize shearing and diffuse axonal injuries. syngo SWI might provide more information regarding subdural and subarachnoid hemorrhage.
  • Tumors
syngo SWI helps identify the vascular content of the tumor and possible microbleeding.
  • Neurodegenerative disease
In Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis and thalassemia, preliminary reports indicate mineralization or the presence of iron deposits. Because syngo SWI is very sensitive to mineralization and iron deposits, it may be useful for evaluating and following up on these patients.
