Nancy Gillen is vice president (VP) of the Magnetic Resonance (MR) Division for Siemens Medical Solutions.
Since her appointment as VP in 1999, Gillen has been responsible for the overall development, marketing and sales of Siemens MR solutions and furthering the division’s business growth in the United States. Gillen has led a restructuring of the MR Division to focus on research and development (R&D) to improve the company’s technology and customer service. Today, the Siemens MR Division has nearly doubled its business.
The Siemens MR Division has experienced great success in recent years due in part to the modality’s increased popularity, a result of the system’s ease of use, enhanced workflow solutions and lack of radiation dose, and also because of Siemens’ commitment to its customers. As new applications for MR are discovered, Siemens will continue to be the technology leader with new hardware, software and applications that are responsive to market needs.
Gillen is a leader who believes the sales force is also her customer, along with those actually purchasing the systems from their local sales person. Gillen knows that paying close attention to the needs of both the customer and the sales force is pivotal to success. She believes that in addition to offering innovative products, Siemens’ fast response time to customer questions and excellent service differentiates the company from the rest of the field.
“It all comes full circle…we validate our customers by offering great products and services, and customers validate us because of our attention to their needs, and they in turn become excellent spokespeople for our technology,” says Gillen. Driven by her love of the industry for its ability to change healthcare and explore new applications, Gillen leads by empowering her team to become leaders.
Gillen started her career with Siemens in 1988 as a computed tomography (CT)/MR sales specialist in the New York area. She was appointed to the position of national sales director for the MR Division in 1995, responsible for developing sales strategies for MR systems. Her programs led to record numbers, both for units sold and revenue booked, making Siemens the market leader in installed-base growth.
Gillen obtained a bachelor’s degree in Business and Health Administration from Dominican College and majored in Radiology at Englewood Hospital School of Radiology. A native New Yorker, Gillen comes from a family of 12 children and enjoys the theater, opera and ballet.
