Siemens on TV: Women and Heart Health
Heart disease is the number one cause of death among women, yet many don't even know they're at risk. A combination of awareness and advanced technologies could help provide more answers to this growing epidemic.
The first step women should take to reduce their risk of heart disease is to see a doctor and go over lifestyle changes that may be needed to prevent heart disease. For instance, more exercise or a change in daily diet may be needed. Doctors can also check a patient's risk potential thanks to advances in imaging equipment. New technology, like the Sequoia echocardiography system, can help detect potential heart abnormalities before they become problematic for patients.
The American Heart Association estimates that up to eight million women suffer from heart disease, which kills more than 250,000 women each year. But with increased awareness and advances, experts say medical technologies can help women live longer and healthier lives.
