Why is it named Open High Field 1Tesla?
Open stands for a Siemens high-performance system with a patient- and user-friendly design. Extensive customer focus groups have confirmed: patients much prefer openness. Open systems are inviting and reassuring. Additionally, the staff has easy access to the patient, and the system is even suitable for MR interventions. High Field stands for 1 tesla field strength. Everyone agrees that 1 tesla is where high-field MR begins - and they have good reasons to. 1 tesla high-field image quality has significant advantages over images achieved with 0.5 or 0.7 tesla which are considered as low- or mid-field images, respectively. So why should such high-field performance be limited to tunnel systems? Certainly, the technical feasibility of an system is hard to imagine and by no means an easy feat. Yet where others have made noble attempts to reach for the stars, Siemens has succeeded: creating the first truly high-field open MR system.
What is the advantage of higher field strength?
A magnet with high field strength creates more signal, resulting in better image quality, better resolution, and shorter measurement time. Normally, you can expect the examination to be completed in 30-50% less time than in mid- and low-field systems. The result: high patient throughput, extensive application depth and excellent investment security.
Which type of magnet is used to generate the field strength?
It is a superconducting, actively-shielded magnet with very high homogeneity over the entire 40 cm field-of-view .
Does Siemens manufacture the magnet in Germany?
No, the key technology comes from OMT (Oxford Magnet Technology), the leading magnet manufacturer in the world. Since OMT is a joint venture with Siemens, we were able to take advantage of many synergies during the research and testing phase. Together, we have been able to develop a magnet solution perfectly suited for use in an MR system.
What are the specific applications of the MAGNETOM Rhapsody?
The application range is equivalent to MAGNETOM Harmony. There will be a comprehensive range of Neurology, Body, and Orthopedic applications as well as advanced techniques such as diffusion and perfusion, and contrast-enhanced MRA. To be a bit more specific – here is a list of some of the features:
Mulit-slab MR angiography
Peripheral MR angiography
Diffusion for early stroke diagnosis
Perfusion for imaging of arterioles and capillaries
BOLD for functional MR imaging
Breath-hold abdominal sequences
Single-shot EPI for very fast imaging
Is Siemens going to implement the new standard syngo operating system in the MAGNETOM Rhapsody as well?
Of course! Our customers want powerful communication in a single language. syngo combines a simple, intuitive user interface with powerful networking capabilities. With syngo, you can manage a patient’s entire workflow – from registration to diagnosis to data storage, including all diagnostic images – at a single workplace. More and more Siemens modalities will become syngo-speaking – syngo even has the potential to become the industry standard for medical imaging in the 21st century.
