What are the unique characteristics of the MAGNETOM Allegra?
Which clinical applications are done on MAGNETOM Allegra?
MAGNETOM Allegra can do all brain clinical applications done at 1.5T: standard T1, T2, imaging, ToF, MR spectroscopy. In addition, it provides best performance for advanced neuro imaging techniques such as diffusion, perfusion and functional MRI and better spectral resolution in MR spectroscopy.
In other words, MAGNETOM Allegra is the perfect machine for a neuroradiology department interested in pathologies such as tumors, stroke, multiple sclerosis, AVMs, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, white-matter degenerative diseases.
Which research applications can be done on MAGNETOM Allegra?
MAGNETOM Allegra is the optimal research scanner for diffusion imaging, perfusion imaging, functional MRI - which all require high-gradient performance - and MR spectroscopy. In addition, the short bore of the magnet enables easy set-up of response buttons or sensory stimulation equipment for functional MRI experiments.
In other words, MAGNETOM Allegra fulfils optimally the need of research neuroradiology, psychiatry, psychology and brain research departments
Can children be scanned on MAGNETOM Allegra?
Yes. MAGNETOM Allegra is optimal for children because the short length of the magnet enable contact to the parents or accompanying person.
How many MAGNETOM Allegra are sold and installed in the world (as of 07-19-2004)?
There are 37 MAGNETOM Allegra sold and 35 installed in the world. Installations are present all over the world, from Turkey, to Japan including the USA and Singapore.
Does MAGNETOM Allegra run under syngo?
Yes. MAGNETOM Allegra users benefit from syngo MR ease of use and advanced applications and Evolve advantages.
Are there any disadvantages or challenges at 3T compared to 1.5T?
Yes.
First T1 parameters are longer, therefore needing particular optimization of the protocols so that contrast similar to 1.5T is obtained.
In addition, Specific Absorption Rate (SAR – or the energy deposited in the body by the RadioFrequency Coils) increases by a factor of 4, when going from 1.5T to 3T. This means that SAR limits –set for patient safety - are more rapidly reached, needing alternative development to ensure fast imaging with great contrast, and best patient safety. This is the basis for the unique Siemens 3TCare program.
Safety data at 3T are sparse. They are less than 15 sites around the world equipped with a whole set of local coils and a body coil and therefore using 3T for routine clinical work. This means that the information regarding patient safety is sparse.
Susceptibility effects associated with fat, the frequency difference between 1H in water and fat, can make fat suppression difficult.
Cost is increased.
