Ten pharmacies in the Stockport area have been supplied with Siemens DCA Vantage Analysers in order to offer an HbA1c test to appropriate diabetes patients, as part of a pharmacy Point of Care testing project. The project, which began in May of this year, aims to show that an HbA1c monitoring service can be provided from community pharmacies in an efficient and convenient manner, thereby improving access and choice for diabetes patients. It also aims to offer a pharmacy based diagnostics support service to patients who do not attend GP practices. More

Siemens Healthcare has developed a sample management system which can be combined with analysis systems for immunology and clinical chemistry. The system accommodates up to 200 sample tubes, identifies the tests to be performed for which patient sample, and feeds the relevant samples to the corresponding analysis system. The technologists no longer have to manually sort the tubes or forward them from one system to the next if samples have to be tested for various analytes. VersaCell Combo enables efficient processing and allows the automation of processes in the lab, even at low investments. More

Siemens Healthcare has established new research laboratories for molecular diagnostics in Cologne, Germany. The focus of the research will be on "breast cancer", a disease that remains the number one cause of death among young women despite the large number of therapies currently available. Almost 40 Siemens employees have been developing new diagnostic tests to help the treating physician find an individually optimized therapy for as many patients as possible, thus combining better chances of recovery than are now offered by today's medical state-of-the-art technology, with reduced side effects. In addition, Siemens has been researching innovative biochips to enable clinics to perform the newly developed breast cancer tests. More

synlab Nuremberg has put the five thousandth Immulite 2000 Analyzer sold by Siemens worldwide into operation. Franconia's largest laboratory center serves some 1,000 physicians and nine clinics in the region. synlab will primarily use the Immulite 2000 Diagnostic System to test blood and serum samples for heart disease and allergies. Donal Quinn has been appointed new head of the Diagnostics division of the Siemens Healthcare Sector. In his new position, Quinn succeeds Jim Reid-Anderson, who on May 1st became the new CEO of this sector. Prior to his new job, Quinn served as Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Officer of the Diagnostics division since November 2007. More

Deerfield, IL, January 16, 2008 Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, today announced that it has launched the LOCI® Folate, LOCI® B12, and LOCI® Ferritin tests for use on the Dimension Vista® 1500 Intelligent Lab System, an ultra-integrated chemistry analyzer.
