A new MRI suite has been developed from a disused ambulance bay at St. Margaret’s Hospital, part of The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust in Essex. Siemens Healthcare managed the turnkey project for the design and build of the suite to utilise valuable space for a recently ordered MAGNETOM® ESSENZA MRI. The Northern Centre for Cancer Care is the largest centre of its kind in the North of England. Based at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, the centre’s current linear accelerator portfolio includes five ONCOR™ systems from Siemens Healthcare. Each ONCOR is being upgraded to 160 multileaf collimator (MLC) capabilities to improve conformal shaping of radiotherapy treatment beams and IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) delivery. The new acute hospital to serve the healthcare needs of residents in Birmingham and the West Midlands will benefit from a raft of innovative medical imaging technologies when it opens its doors to patients in 2010. A multi-million pound investment on four MRI scanners, four CT and three SPECT/CT systems has been made by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB). Siemens Healthcare will be supplying the equipment in these three modality areas for the new hospital, which has just been named as the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB), providing a first class service to patients.
