An evaluation report by KCARE, for the Centre for Evidence-based Purchasing (CEP), on the ACUSON P10™ ultrasound system from Siemens Healthcare suggests that use of the handheld unit may reduce the number of people referred for full ultrasound examinations. The evaluation also highlights particular benefits in cardiology, obstetrics and emergency triage due to its portability. More

Birmingham Women’s NHS Foundation Trust is one of only two Trusts in the UK offering specialist care to women. It recently installed two ACUSON S2000™ ultrasound systems from Siemens Healthcare into its Fetal Medicine Centre. Taking referrals for suspected fetal abnormalities, the department is using the new systems for screening cardiac defects as well as assessing mothers with conditions such as diabetes and epilepsy. A 4D foetal imaging poster that details real life images of the various stages of pregnancy is now available to Obstetrics and Gynaecology departments. It is an interesting education tool for junior staff and expectant patients. A seminar was recently held at the University of Liverpool for more than one hundred healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. The event was organised by the University’s School of Health Sciences and sponsored by Siemens Healthcare.
