Barnet Hospital, part of Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals NHS Trust has officially opened its new catheter laboratory facility which includes an Artis™ zee Floor digital C-arm angiography system from Siemens Healthcare. Its principle use will be for conducting angiogram examinations of coronary arteries.
The new system has been installed as part of a variation to an existing 33 year PFI contract between the Trust and Metier Healthcare Limited which includes a Managed Equipment Service (MES) partnership with Siemens Healthcare. This long term MES agreement looks after the procurement and servicing of vital medical equipment and facilitates smooth installation along with appropriate staff training and support. This provides the Trust with rapid access to the latest technology without staff taking eyes off patient care. This strategic approach to medical equipment ensures that advanced procedures can be offered to patients and that equipment uptime is maximised.
“We have already successfully treated over a thousand patients on the Artis zee system which yields excellent image quality as well as proving intuitive and easy-to-use,” states Ameet Bakhai, Consultant Cardiologist at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospital NHS Trust. “Time, efficiency and ergonomics is an important equation in a cath lab. The Artis zee encompasses all of these factors, enabling us to provide optimal solutions for patient treatment.”
A purpose built extension at the hospital has been constructed to house the new equipment. Siemens liaised closely with the building contractor and Metier to ensure that the design of the facility would successfully accommodate the new technology.

The Artis zee Floor is an all-digital single-plane C-arm angiography system designed to give unprecedented cardiac imaging performance and an expansive range of diagnostic and interventional applications, from cardiac angiography to ECG-triggered fluoroscopy. The C-arm is compact and slim-line for flexible positioning around the patient.
