Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Inverclyde Royal Hospital and the Western Infirmary, three sites of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, have each installed a MAGNETOM® Avanto 1.5 MRI system from Siemens Healthcare.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the largest Health Board in Scotland. The joined up MRI service across the three sites will deliver fast and efficient clinical imaging to patients in a wide geographic radius.
The MAGNETOM Avanto 1.5T MRI scanner is capable of providing outstanding image quality that will assist with quick and confident diagnosis in a wide variety of cases, such as strokes, musculoskeletal disorders and cancer. Total Imaging Matrix (TIM) technology provides seamless scans of up to 205cm without the need to reposition or change coils. It also offers exceptional magnet homogeneity for fat saturation, a large field of view (500mm) and strong gradients for high resolution and short scan times.
Designed not only for clinical excellence, but also patient comfort, the MAGNETOM Avanto has lightweight coils that are more comfortable for patients. A low table position also makes access easier for those with limited mobility, plus noise during scanning can be greatly reduced making lengthy procedures more tolerable. The 60cm wide bore and option of feet first examinations also eases feelings of claustrophobia and is suitable for obese patients.
“The Avanto has provided us with high quality imaging that allows more patients to be treated in a working day,” states Dr Nigel McMillan, Consultant Radiologist at the Western Infirmary, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. “Our patients no longer have to travel far, as the systems across the three sites cover a large area to ensure many communities receive the latest medical care.”
“The triple Avanto installation has provided the three hospitals with a joined up MRI service for imaging a large number of patients quickly and efficiently,” states James Weir, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens Healthcare. “We hope that they will soon be able to share patient records and images across sites, ensuring continuity of care for swift diagnosis and treatment.”
