Domestic pets are now able to receive high quality imaging treatment at Fitzpatrick Referrals, a specialist practice for domestic pets in Surrey. Many guests, including celebrity Chris Evans, attended the official opening event to see how specialist medical technology can provide healthcare benefits to animal patients and their owners.
A MAGNETOM® Symphony MRI from Siemens Healthcare was part of the new practice facilities officially opened. The MRI was installed to provide ultra-clear images of bone, spine, brain and soft tissues. Detailed imaging examinations provide rapid and accurate diagnosis in both routine problems, such as slipped discs and potentially life-threatening conditions, such as tumours.
“The Siemens MRI has allowed us to expand the orthopaedic and neurology service we offer and enhance the standard of care provided by our specialist referral centre. We can provide a rapidly acquired high-resolution MRI scan for any pet from anywhere in the UK within a day and can perform surgery the same day if required, seven days a week, 365 days a year,” states Noel Fitzpatrick, Director at Fitzpatrick Referrals. “The scanner provides the best quality images available for small animals in the UK and allows us to make rapid and accurate diagnoses and to institute immediate, appropriate, efficient and effective intervention. We are proud that this collaboration with Siemens allows us to provide one of the most responsive services in the world – for example, from admission to scan to surgical recovery for a standard spinal disc herniation takes only one hour on average.”
The MAGNETOM Symphony MRI provides high resolution images at a reduced scan time in order to quickly and efficiently diagnose anomalies in the body. Its open bore design means that it will easily accommodate domestic animals in a non-threatening environment. Veterinary surgeons can obtain results to assist with a diagnosis, plus owners have the assurance that their animals will not suffer undue discomfort.
“Pets are part of the family, which means people want them to be extremely well looked after,” states Andreas Hadjiphanis, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens Healthcare. “Modern technology such as the MRI means that animals can be examined in detail and in the most comfortable way possible.”
