The imaging department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, part of NHS Grampian, has received a boost with the installation of a Symbia® S SPECT from Siemens Healthcare. The upgrade to a Symbia S will assist in meeting the Board’s targets for scanning patients plus complement two other systems in the nuclear medicine department.
The addition of a Symbia S accelerates workflow in the nuclear medicine department with faster image acquisition on a wide range of procedures, particularly brain and bone scanning.
The Symbia S features an integrated collimator changer, eliminating the need for a collimator cart by providing a storage area underneath the bed. An automatic collimator attachment and robotic detector positioning are easily selected from the touch-screen patient positioning monitor. This space saving solution is simple to use and safer for the operator.
“Performing examinations using the Symbia S enables us to achieve better resolution images at faster speeds,” said Lesley Lovell, Principal Technologist at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. “The inclusion of a fully automated collimator changer was a key factor in our decision to purchase the system as it gives us more time to perform other tasks and more flexibility when scheduling examinations.”
“The Symbia S combines automation and fast image acquisition,” said Jim Donald, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens Healthcare. “We are delighted that the new system has the potential to help meet NHS Grampian’s targets by enabling staff to maximise the use of their time.”
