A MAMMOMAT Inspiration™ Full-Field Direct Digital Mammography system from Siemens Healthcare has been installed at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, part of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, to enable symptomatic patients to be imaged with the latest technology.
The Inspiration was installed to replace an existing analogue system, as part of the Trust’s long-term Managed Equipment Service (MES). This specialist partnership guarantees the ongoing renewal of imaging equipment to enhance the standard of care provided to patients. The bespoke MES with Siemens Healthcare is now in its tenth year.
The Inspiration is saving hospital staff valuable time as images appear digitally on the screen enabling radiographers to decide immediately if image retakes are needed, improving clinical workflow and patient care.
“The digital system saves mammographers a great deal of time as they don’t have to leave the room to process films. There are no cassettes to handle and reload, which significantly increases the number of patients we are able to see in a day,” states Pat Gowenlock, Superintendent Radiographer at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. “Due to the system’s rapid image display, patients do not have to wait as long during the examination process, or continually undress and redress if a repeat examination is needed. It’s a much better experience for the patient.”
“As innovations in breast imaging are rapidly developing, it can be challenging for Trusts to find the capital budget to gain access to the latest medical technology,” states Philip Peace, Director of Managed Equipment Services at Siemens Healthcare. “However an MES can significantly assist with the funding of such systems by financing and setting equipment lifecycle refreshments and taking performance risk away from the Trust.”
Siemens Healthcare is the market leading provider of MES to NHS Trusts. Agreements can be Trust-direct, enabling the provider to operate directly with Trust personnel or via consortia led arrangements to deliver value for money, predictable expenditure over the long-term, improved efficiency and less risk.
