Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics is the supporting partner for National Pathology Week taking place from 2-8 November 2009. It is working with The Royal College of Pathologists to raise awareness of the differing pathology specialities and their role in modern healthcare.
The theme of the week is the heart and hundreds of pathologists are organising events across the UK, targeting a wide range of audiences from secondary school students, fellow healthcare professionals to the general public, medical students and MPs.
David Budd, Head of Siemens Pathology Partnerships at Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, will be one of the keynote speakers at the official launch event on Monday 2nd November at The Royal College of Pathologists alongside Professor Peter Furness, President of the Royal College of Pathologists and Dr. Suzy Lishman, Project Lead for National Pathology Week.
“Siemens is proud to take a central role in supporting National Pathology Week. Catching the onset of cardiovascular disease early through pathology has beneficial long-term effects for both patients and healthcare providers,” said David Budd, Head of Siemens Pathology Partnerships at Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics. “We look forward to taking part in the national programme of events and also welcoming visitors to our new Siemens Academy Training and Education Centre. We hope to open the doors to local school children to learn more about the world of clinical chemistry, haematology and microbiology as well as seeing the latest automated laboratory technology in action.”
“The first National Pathology Week was a resounding success, a success made possible by the sponsorship and commitment of Siemens. Pathologists have a major communications problem, to explain to people that our work is mainly about healthcare for the living. Did you know that only 1% of Fellows of the Royal College of Pathologists are forensic pathologists? In 2008, pathologists and members of the public found they really enjoyed talking to each other. We are delighted that Siemens recognises the importance of this work and will be assisting us to even greater things in 2009,” said Professor Peter Furness, President of the Royal College of Pathologists.
