Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, part of NHS Grampian, has installed a SOMATOM® Definition AS+ CT from Siemens Healthcare. The system will provide a long-term solution to meet the hospital’s CT needs. The Definition AS+ is being used for head and body scans while the other CT at the hospital is concentrating solely on body scanning. The system adapts seamlessly to all patient types, including paediatric and bariatric patients.
With impeccable images that are displayed instantly to speed up examination times, the Definition AS+ plays a pivotal role in increasing the number of patients seen during the working day. Using CARE Dose4D™ it also offers an unparalleled combination of maximum image quality at minimum dose. A fully automated dose management system adjusts the tube current according to the anatomy of each patient’s organ.
”We selected the Siemens Definition AS+ because it is a state-of-the-art system that offers security as a sound investment for the future,” said Pat Skinner, Superintendent Radiographer at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. “The whole department has been incredibly impressed with the excellent quality of the images that it produces as well as the speed with which they can be acquired. For example, beforehand a patient having a chest examination may have had to hold their breath for 30 seconds to get an image, now it can be as little as four to five seconds, which is far more comfortable.”
“The new CT addition to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary provides a sustainable solution for the future, with options for upgrades to support long term use,” said Jim Donald, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens Healthcare. “The superior quality of images that are produced add to diagnostic confidence and help clinicians to examine patients more rapidly.”
