Freeman Hospital in Newcastle and Derby City Urology Project have both installed Uroskop Access tables from Siemens Medical Solutions in their urology departments. By improving physicians’ access to patients throughout procedures, the urodiagnostic tables remove unnecessary patient repositioning during examinations. This reduces operating room (OR) time by up to 30 per cent.
The Uroskop Access went live in Freeman Hospital in June 2007, replacing the existing Siemens Uroskop table that had been used for the previous 15 years. Although the installation is still relatively new, the staff at Freeman has already found a significant improvement to the image and patient access. Uroskop allows patient access from four sides of the table. This gives the benefit of having to position the patient only once, making the operation much more comfortable, simpler and a quicker task.
The Uroskop Access table provides outstanding, digital, real-time images allowing for more accurate diagnosis and more efficient running of the urology department. UROSKOP Access is a system that combines a high-powered generator with a heavy-duty X-ray tube to ensure maximum image quality. The image intensifier provides an almost unlimited field of view and a high-resolution, high-contrast image. The table’s X-ray tube and image intensifier are motorised so they can be positioned individually. UROSKOP has high-resolution flat-screen monitors.
Alan Cleghorn, Superintendent Radiographer at Freeman Hospital said: "The Uroskop Access is a particularly well designed and engineered system, and we have found it extremely flexible and easy to use. Not only is the system intuitive from a radiographers perspective, but it also gives us superb image quality and gives the patient greater comfort.”
Derby City Urology Project has had its Uroskop Access a little longer, but its impact has been no less impressive. Replacing the Philips Uro-diagnost, the staff at Derby City has found the Siemens solution much easier to operate and offers improved flexibility.
Anne Ward, Superintendent Radiographer, Derby Hospital, said: “As well as delivering a first-class Uro X-ray system, Siemens has also delivered a first class service to go with it. We have had excellent engineer support and the installation was smooth with minimal downtime. It is gratifying to have a system that enables us to deliver such benefits to the patients.”
Neil Lincoln, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens Medical Solutions commented: “Urology is such a delicate area of medicine, anything that can reduce patient discomfort must be welcomed. Both hospitals are now able to benefit from reduced OR time in Urology and have significantly improved access to patients during procedures.”
