Bristol Royal Infirmary, part of the United Bristol Healthcare NHS Trust, has placed the first UK order of the Symbia T16 TruePoint SPECT•CT from Siemens. The hybrid system benefits from the combined power of a variable angle dual detector SPECT with a 16-slice CT.
The Symbia T16 offers increased speed over the other Symbia systems. It allows clinicians to gather not only functional imaging to detect changes on a molecular level, but also detailed anatomical information from the integrated scanning facility. Its versatile design means it can provide expanded coverage in whole-body CT applications.
The Symbia T16 can complete a full rotation in 0.5 seconds, yielding particular benefits for oncology screening when a large area must be covered in a short time. Its rapid scan time also makes it ideal for calcium scoring, providing detailed images of the coronary arteries in less than 20 seconds, irrespective of the heart beat.
“The Symbia T16 is the most advanced and versatile option in the innovative Symbia TruePoint SPECT•CT series,” said Lawrence Foulsham, Product Manager for Molecular Imaging & Oncology at Siemens. “It is the only system in the range that offers vascular imaging - its adaptability makes it a valuable and efficient choice for a busy city hospital.”
“We are delighted that Bristol Royal Infirmary has selected the first Symbia T16 in the UK,” said Darren Parker, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens. “Our nuclear medicine solutions are continually evolving to provide the best quality service. This is a state-of-the-art technology that will provide superior image quality and enhance the standard of care provided to patients in the Bristol area.”
