A seminar was recently held at the University of Liverpool for more than one hundred healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. The event was organised by the University’s School of Health Sciences and sponsored by Siemens Healthcare. Delegates had the opportunity to observe live scanning and listen to lectures on the management of rotator cuff injuries, most commonly suffered by the over 50s as a result of attritional wear and tear to the shoulder muscles.
Dr. Andy Dunn and Sonographer Carol Atherton from the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust gave demonstrations using the Siemens ACUSON Antares™ Premium Edition to demonstrate the use of ultrasound and its benefits for imaging the shoulder structures.
The Antares’ Advanced SieClear™ technology combines contrast resolution and speckle reduction to deliver excellent quality imaging for detailed scans of musculoskeletal injuries. The system is available with a range of transducers including the ergonomically designed VF13-5SP ‘hockey stick’ probe for improved accessibility to musculoskeletal structures. With its large screen, high-resolution flat-panel display and height adjustable control panel, the Antares proved to be extremely effective for the hands-on demonstrations that took place during the evening.
“This was a great opportunity for delegates to witness first hand the capabilities of the ACUSON Antares for musculoskeletal imaging,” said Nicola Towers, Clinical Applications Specialist at Siemens Healthcare. “The UK’s ageing population means that these kinds of musculoskeletal injuries can only become more prevalent and we are delighted to be able to sponsor seminars such as these where delegates are given the opportunity to learn from specialist radiologists.”
