The Royal Liverpool University Hospital, part of The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust, has installed a Symbia® TruePoint SPECT•CT from Siemens Healthcare for a range of procedures including cardiology and neurology. It combines a variable angle dual detector SPECT with a 2 slice CT for rapid, accurate attenuation correction and anatomical mapping. The system is also being used for parathyroid imaging and the staging of neuroendocrine tumours.
The Symbia T uses Siemens’ TruePoint SPECT•CT technology, a unique combination of specialised features and workflow solutions for improved diagnosis, treatment and patient care. The system is also highly versatile with an easily rotating detector head for comprehensive coverage. This allows for faster examination set-up and image acquisition to improve results in traditionally challenging scans.
“The clinical images produced by the Symbia T are excellent,” said Dr. Melvyn Carroll, Chief Physicist at The Royal Liverpool University Hospital. “The system was selected as it offered TruePoint technology for highly detailed images to assist with procedures.”
“By using a combined system such as the Symbia T, Royal Liverpool University Hospital has maximised the benefits delivered by two sets of information in one simple examination,” said Clive West, Regional Sales & Corporate Business Manager at Siemens Healthcare. “SPECT•CT is a valuable tool for detecting disease at an early stage and for therapy planning.”
