The Wellington Hospital in North London, the largest independent hospital in the UK, has an international reputation for outstanding care in medicine, particularly cardiac care and neurosurgery. The hospital recently installed an Artis zee™ ceiling-mounted system from Siemens Healthcare for use in general angiography and other interventions.
The new system has also allowed the hospital to carry out vertebroplasties for the first time, using the Artis zee as a guide during the minimally invasive procedure. Its advanced 3D image quality will enhance decision making in the interventional suite, making procedures faster and more effective.
The Artis zee features a large flat detector for flexible positioning around the patient, providing 2D, 3D or 4D imaging at a low dose. Motorised positioning of the C-arm also reduces manual handling and allows procedures to be performed swiftly. It also features a flexible isocentre memory for improved positioning.
“The Artis zee has given us the reliability we needed to carry out a more diverse range of procedures including vertebroplasties. It is also very easy to use and provides us with excellent images,” said Brendon Sergeant, Senior 1 Radiographer at The Wellington Hospital. “The ceiling-mounted setup has also greatly improved versatility in the interventional suite.”
Staff at the hospital have also undergone training on the application, syngo® Dyna CT, which will enhance the capabilities of the Artis zee system. This application enables cross-sectional imaging, providing additional soft tissue images to improve patient management during interventions. The extra information reduces the need for pre-procedural CT scans as it provides the necessary images on the table, allowing procedures to be carried out smoothly. The Wellington Hospital is using the application in preparation for the insertion of cerebral coils.
“Not only has the system allowed us to offer a wider range of procedures but we are looking forward to extending this in the future with yet more complex work,” said Leslie Gabriel, Imaging Services Manager at The Wellington Hospital. “These new clinical offerings have only been made possible due to the high quality of the system.”
“The Wellington Hospital has an international reputation for excellent care,” said Gary Cook, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens Healthcare. “We are delighted that The Wellington can offer vertebroplasties and fully utilise the advanced application DynaCT. Its forward thinking design also means that the system is a great investment with the versatility to perform new and emerging clinical techniques.”
