Maidstone Hospital in Kent, part of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, is benefiting from a fast and efficient radiography and fluoroscopy solution following the installation of an AXIOM Luminos dRF™ digital system from Siemens Healthcare.
The Luminos dRF is used in approximately ten fluoroscopy examinations per week for those undergoing barium enemas and barium swallows and used for General Radiography the remainder of the time. The system is ideal for these procedures producing brilliant digital images with broad coverage, even in the four corners, on its 43cm x 43cm flat detector. The wide travel range of the image receptor and tabletop also mean that patient repositioning is unnecessary in most cases.
The Luminos dRF also benefits from advanced post-processing features. Its enhanced DiamondViewPlus software optimises the detail contrast and noise level of images to further improve quality and reduce the need for retakes. This maximises productivity, allowing clinicians to make accurate decisions in a short amount of time.
”The Luminos is a far more user-friendly option than our previous fluoroscopy unit,” said Hilda Woolmington, Lead Superintendent Radiographer at Maidstone Hospital. “Not only is it accessible for those using it on a daily basis, it’s also great for patients. The tabletop can be lowered far enough to mean that it’s suitable for the wide range of people we see in the department including disabled patients or those with limited mobility.”
The option to lower the tabletop to as low as 48cm not only makes positioning easier, it also means that examinations are more streamlined for heavier or immobile patients. Some examinations can even be performed if a patient is wheelchair-bound. The system also features pre-programmed horizontal and vertical patient transfer positions so all components can quickly be configured in the correct position.
“The AXIOM Luminos dRF is a great solution for cost-effective, high quality healthcare, incorporating advanced technologies in fluoroscopy and radiography,” said Clive West, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens Healthcare. “As the NHS faces the challenges of bariatric patients and an ageing population, everyday systems need to be robust and accessible to meet demand. The Luminos dRF is also versatile enough to adapt to future changes in clinical application, making it a great investment.”
